Michaels and Kohl’s senior discounts: ages, days, and rules

By Graham Ellery · Official source information reviewed October 13, 2026

A discount is most useful when it lowers the cost of something you already planned to buy. Start with your shopping list, then see whether an age-based offer fits.

Which offer fits your shopping trip?

Michaels: age 55+, 10% off eligible purchases. Kohl’s: age 60+, 15% off qualifying in-store purchases on Wednesdays. Check exclusions and the final price before choosing.

At 55: check your next craft purchase

Michaels offers customers 55 and older 10% off eligible purchases, including eligible sale items. Bring valid identification or complete age verification through Michaels Rewards; a verified account lets you use the offer online as well. Clearance, classes, custom framing, gift cards, many brands, and third-party marketplace items are excluded. Read Michaels’ current terms.

At 60: Wednesday may help

Kohl’s offers customers 60 and older 15% off qualifying in-store purchases on Wednesdays. Bring identification and ask before paying. The offer is not valid online, excludes specified merchandise, and cannot combine with another percentage-off coupon. Eligible dollar-off coupons are applied first. Read Kohl’s current terms.

Turn the percentage into dollars

On an otherwise eligible $40 purchase, 10% is $4 and 15% is $6, before tax. That is useful information when deciding whether a special trip is worthwhile. A different store’s everyday price might still be lower. Compare the same item, package size, and final price, including delivery or travel costs.

If another coupon is available, ask which single offer gives the better price. Do not assume offers can be stacked. Keep the receipt and check that the discount applied to the intended items.

A quick question for checkout

“I qualify for the age-based discount. Does it apply to these items, and is it the best offer available on this purchase?”

Use the answer to make a decision without adding unnecessary items to the basket. These are shopping discounts: the purchase still costs money.

For an easy first step, choose one item on your existing list, note its normal price, and check the applicable offer. A small, repeatable saving is more useful than an impressive percentage on something you did not need.
