Free classes and activities for older adults
By Graham Ellery · Official source information reviewed October 13, 2026
An enjoyable week can begin with one conversation or a class that catches your interest. These two programs offer ways to participate from home, with different age requirements and formats.
Two free ways to join in
Senior Planet offers classes for adults 50+. Well Connected offers phone or online groups for adults 60+. A paid AARP membership is not required for Senior Planet; usual connection costs can remain.
Well Connected: a group by phone or online
Front Porch’s Well Connected is free for adults 60 and older. Its offerings include art, music, reading, travel discussions, and other interests. Participants can join by telephone or online. Call 877-797-7299 or use the official Well Connected enrollment page to find the current catalog and joining instructions. Your usual telephone or internet charges can remain.
Senior Planet: classes designed for older learners
Senior Planet welcomes adults 50 and older to free programs. A paid AARP membership is not required. Its offerings include digital skills, discussion groups, and other learning activities. Some sessions require registration; check the individual event for format, time zone, access instructions, and any equipment needed. Start with the current class calendar and program FAQ. Your internet, device, or telephone costs remain.
Choose for enjoyment
Look for a subject you would talk about over coffee: a book, a place you would like to visit, or a hobby you have wanted to try. You do not need to fill your week with activities. Pick one session that fits your energy and routine.
Write down the date, local start time, joining details, and contact number. If you are joining online, check sound and the required software in advance. For a phone session, keep the dial-in instructions beside the telephone.
Make the first visit easier
- Read the event description so you know what participation involves.
- Ask the organizer about accessibility or joining help you need.
- Invite a friend to explore the catalog with you; each person should follow the enrollment rules.
- Afterward, decide whether you enjoyed it enough to return.
Free participation gives you room to explore. Finding the right activity matters more than collecting a long list.
